The Gonzaga Effect

Gonzaga University resides on a beautiful, renowned, and historic campus. The community of Spokane, Washington embraces the environment shared with the University’s ecosystem. The campus encompasses a focal point of Eastern Washington; the sights and sounds that envelop the campus, give a collective identity to all who have a relationship with the university and surrounding community. Peace, acceptance, and support are abundantly available at Gonzaga.

“The term humanistic is understood to include the quest for self-knowledge and the formation of a virtuous character. We impart to our students a critical understanding and appreciation of our common human nature, moral heritage of the culture and society, as well as some exposure and education in cultures and societies different from their own… Humanistic in its original meaning,’ of the humanities,’ is meant beyond academics to include the development of the whole person, helping students integrate their lives into harmonious whole and learning to prize and respect the flourishing of others, however different from themselves.”

The buildings, environments, and people of Gonzaga embody these intentions. Valuing others and creating a sense of wholeness in self is an altruistic sentiment that has the power to create a better world. Thoughtful and educated individuals, connected through a shared intent to create good, can change the perils suffered by so many. Peace is not always guaranteed and help is not always assured, but a place that fosters both is a rare find. Gonzaga University is that place for its students and faculty. Through the institutions approach and commitment to its mission, staff, and students, is what will continue to be generator for positive change agents around the world.
